Located on the campus of Santa Sophia Catholic Church, Santa Sophia Academy Louise Amado Preschool has been providing quality care for preschoolers and their families for more than 25 years. We are proud of our Catholic identity and the shared culture of values that this creates among our preschool community. Our preschool license number is 370805311.
Our preschool program provides care for children ages 2 and 9 months to 5 years, in a warm, home-like setting.
Our learning center is located in its own specially-adapted building with a fenced and partially-shaded play area. The church campus is equipped with closed circuit security cameras, which also monitor the preschool entry and play area. All who visit our preschool campus must gain access via a security code or be admitted personally by preschool staff.
Our staff provides a warm, safe and nurturing environment, encouraging creativity, inquiry, developmental skills, and a strong moral foundation of Catholic teachings.

At Santa Sophia Louise Amado Preschool our goal is to provide:

We believe “a child’s work is play” and that at a young age, children learn best engaging in hands-on learning experiences. We provide experiences in the areas of math, science, music, cooking, art, dramatic play, language, and literature. Our environment encourages learning experiences that will help them grow while enjoying their precious time to be a child.
Entrance Requirements:
The regular school year starts in August of 2025. Children must be at least 2 years and nine months old and fully toilet trained before starting school. Must provide immunization record with registration. Children need the following immunizations in order to be considered:- 3Polio

Our History
For over 25 years Santa Sophia Church has provided a Catholic preschool experience for our children. Many worked on the parish-owned house on the corner of Bonita and San Juan to get it ready to begin classes in September of 1984. We began with two classrooms – which we quickly outgrew – so the garage was converted into our third classroom. In August 2008 we moved into our wonderful new facility.
Our facility is licensed by the State of California. We are the first licensed Catholic preschool in the San Diego area and we have an outstanding reputation. Our goal, and desire, is to provide excellent care and instruction.
Our teachers have been with us for many years and they provide a warm, loving and caring environment with guidance and developmental experiences appropriate for the young child. Children under our care are allowed to experiment, explore, discover and develop at his or her rate. We believe that our environment should encourage children to be creative and to make choices.
Our program offers a God-based, safe learning environment for children. Our curriculum is planned around the interests and needs of the young child. Preschool is an opportunity to learn to share, follow instructions and prepare children for what will occur in elementary school. We support their social skills: cooperation, self-control, confidence, independence, curiosity, empathy and communication, as well as help develop many other skills that are foundational for transitioning into elementary school. Once these basic social interactions and group behaviors skills are in place, the child is more able to concentrate on academics.
The underlying principle of our program is a dependable routine. The daily and weekly routine follows a consistent rhythm. Our atmosphere is home-like. God is a daily part of our program. We emphasize creative learning through music, story time, singing, cooking, play acting and outdoor time, plus many other activities. The goal is to develop the child emotionally and physically as well as intellectually.
Each year we have a Harvest Sing at Thanksgiving time and a Children’s Sing at Christmas time. At the end of each school year we have our Annual Children’s Art Show. The artwork displayed at our art show is the work of the children currently participating in our program.

Santa Sophia Preschool Tuition Information for 2026-2027
Enrollment Dates
February 3rd - March 3rd: Registration Fee is $200.00
After March 3rd Registration Fee is $250.00
* Annual Registration Fee (non-refundable)
* Payments will be set up using FACTS (automatic payment system)
*A hourly charge of $10.00 per hour will be charged for going over contracted time billed through facts
* Late pick up fee- A child picked up after 5:00 PM will be charged $25.00 for the first 15 minutes
* Then an additional $5.00 per minute following the initial 15 minutes.
* There is no vacation or holiday rate
* If your child is absent due to illness or vacation no credits will be issued or make up dates allowed
* SSA is closed 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 Week at Easter, 2 Weeks in summer. Monthly fees stay the same when closed2026-2027 Tuition
